Your iPhone XS or XR battery case could be due a free replacement from Apple

Apple has launched a new replacement program for its iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR smart battery cases, after charging issues were discovered in some devices. According to the Apple, some of the cases may have a problem when plugged into power they won't charge, or they may struggle to charge your iPhone. If your model is affected, then Apple or one of its authorized service providers can replace it for free.



The battery cases are not cheap at $129 but their tight integration with the iPhone ensures they come with a few benefits. For example, iOS can show the charging level of your battery case in its top notification bar and may also transfer data through the Lightning port of the battery case. If your case is suitable for a replacement, it may be worth taking it to an Apple Store regardless of whether it has issues. You're going to get a newer model, and in the future it should be less likely to develop issues.


The affected models were manufactured between January and October 2019 (the cases were revealed in January), according to Apple. If you want to take advantage of the program, then Apple says that you will need to take it to an authorized service provider or an Apple store, where it will be checked to ensure that it is registered. If so, then Apple says it will environmentally friendly disposal of your old model. According to Apple, affected cases will be compensated for two years of their original sale.
